The aftermayhem was fun. Chase is really getting into his role as the lead host, but I gotta say, he went too far by sending Millie to Syberia...

Hi! Just a little heads-up. I just want to say that I may not be able to make edits for a while due to a few reasons.

One of them has to do with school. The workload from school is getting heavier and I'm losing the time I need to make these.

The other one is a more serious concern. Ever since S2 finished airing, I've been getting some nasty things sent to me in my asks over my preferences. I'm not linking them, but you can find out what some of them looked like here if you scrolled through my blog

I'm not generalizing because I know not everyone who likes it is like that, but it has taken quite a toll on my mental health and gotten very tiring to deal with asks like those in silence.

I'm sorry.

Syberia: The World Before

Because I didn't say it, and I should.

The game is gorgeous. Sure, there's minor things, like reflections in some mirrors, and easily enough ignored. (And that may have something to do with my graphics card and drivers, as I have Nvidia right now and I think there may be an issue with those?)

Expressions on characters and body movements (for body language) are really nice, they're good.

I don't even like Art Nouveau, but the setting, the city, is gorgeous.

Most of my irritation came from that glitch/bug with the music square puzzle part, or because I was an idiot and did NOT fully read the on-screen control instructions (specifically, the stove in the refuge).

I do think it's a fitting addition to the saga. I can't comment about the amount of puzzles, because it's been years since I played Syberia and Syberia II. I don't think I ever played III, and I nope'd out of a no-commentary playthrough after maybe ten minutes, because the voice acting was just awful (except for Kate, of course, because it's the same woman playing her in all four).

Rage Racer (PS1) - simple racing game, best OST

Azure Dreams (PS1) - pokemon dungeon crawler with dating and town building side quests. collect monsters, climb to the top of the tower to find out what happened to your father.

Alundra (PS1) - adventure fantasy rpg puzzle game. you Will need the guide book. beautiful art. interesting story. you enter people's dreams to save them from certain death while also trying to fight evil in the real world.

Brave Fencer Musashi (PS1) - silly action adventure fantasy, save the world from evil with two swords as legendary hero Musashi

SaGa Frontier (PS1) - Turn based JRPG, a bit clunky but fun. You choose one of 7 origin heroes, play their personal stories, and meet many other companions to defeat evil together. Only SaGa series game I've played.

Secrets of Evermore (SNES) - your dog runs into a laboratory, now you have to travel across time to get home and face monsters. The dog changes breeds and has special powers each level.

DISNEY. Lion King, Timon & Pumbsa, Toy Story (SNES) Aladdin, The Little Mermaid (SegaGEN) All disgustingly hard for Capitalism(tm) reasons but still very fun.

Heroes Chronicles series (PC) - fantasy strategy game series. Chess with monsters? Interesting but super simple story. One of my favorite games to zone out with.

Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven (PC) - Fantasy party dungeon crawling RPG, one of my favorites.

Myst (PC) - Puzzle game of the ages.

Syberia I & II (PC) - A good puzzle narrative game, well acclaimed.

Return to Mysterious Island (PC) - Another first person puzzle game. If u cant tell I really loved these. Good game, good anrrative, very short and not as difficult as previous.

Darkfall: The Journal (PC) - scared me as a kid. First person puzzle game with ghosts. Think of a gentler Myst or Riven.

Micro Machines (SegaGen) - Silly racing games. Multiplayer

California Games (SegaGen) - More silly sports games

Ballz (SegaGen) - A super silly fighting game. Everyone is made of little balls. Think of. Round minecraft.

Detective Barbie (PC) - Solving various easy mysteries

Barbie: Race & Ride (PS1) - Barbie & horses <3

Barbie: Super Sports (PS1) - Barbie skating, snowboarding, etc <3

Digimon World 3 (PS1) - Turn based adventure fantasy, love the card minigame

Digimon Rumble Arena (PS1) - Simple fighting game

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (PS2) - Scifi/fantasy JRPG, interesting fighting system and lore. I otherwise have never played the other Star Ocean games.

Red Ninja (PS2) - Fun stealth game. Pro And Con: Main Character big titty ninja girl you can easily panty shot.

Yu-Gi-Oh: Duelist of the Roses (PS2) - I wish this version of YuGiOh existed IRL, I fucking love this system. I want to print out all the cards and a mat to play.

The Last Remnant (XBox 360) - A square JRPG. I'll be honest there are so many better games both play and lore, but the unique battle system stole my heart.

I have every Final Fantasy up to XIII, but my favorites are V, VIII, IX, and X-2 in that order.

I also have every Silent Hill up to Downpour. My favorites are 1, 2, and 4.

Lore: I played Silent Hill when I was 6 or 7 years old and liked it even though I was bad at it. I played Tomb Raider when I was the same age and was too scared of the bear to ever get past the first 10 minutes.

Now that I’ve played the “An Automaton with a Plan” DLC I suppose that’s the end of my Syberia III adventure for now! Unfortunately, the DLC was rather short. I would have enjoyed spending more time with our clever automaton companion.

Ах ты ж блин, вышла же третья “Сибирь!” Но мне этого счастья точно не видать, по той же причине, по которой я не играю в Overwatch и другие новые игры - компьютер у меня слабенький, а Playstation 4 мне в скором времени не видать. Смотреть на Youtube как игру проходят другие - выше моих сил, так что останусь пока в неведении относительно дальнейшей судьбы Кейт Уолкер. А ведь первая часть была мной заиграна напрочь - мой любимейший квест. Улицы Валадилены, городок Баррокштадт, жуткий Комсомольск, тихий Аралабад... Да я их знаю лучше, чем родной город (серьезно, без шуток). Я уж не говорю про персонажей, которые мне как родные - Кейт Уолкер, автоматон Оскар и, конечно же, Ганс Форальберг!.. Во вторую часть играл уже меньше, и, как по мне, она уже лишняя, слишком уж идеальная была первая игра, ей ни к чему продолжения. Но в третью часть я бы естественно поиграл с огромным удовольствием. Потому что это продолжение (необходимое или нет, не знаю) любимой истории, потому что нам новый ворох загадок и головоломок, потому что... да потому что я уже сотню лет не играл в старые-добрые квесты. Особенно новые. Эх...

I recently read a trivia item om Instagram that the makers of the RPG video game Horizon: Zero Dawn were apparently concerned players wouldn’t like having a game with a female protagonist.

That struck me as very odd considering Aloy is hardly the first female protagonist we’ve seen in a game! Ah, yes, Aloy, a.k.a. The Queen of Snark (seriously, a lot of the appeal of the game comes from her taking no BS from anybody, not even monster robots). Seriously, she’s become one of my favourite video game characters (thanks to a Best Buy special, I started playing the game for the first time a month or so ago). Her dialogue is spot on, and as an action hero, she’s one of the best I’ve played. Much of the credit has to go to voice actress Ashly Burch (though the character’s physical appearance is based on that of actress Hannah Hoekstra).

Indeed, thinking back, most of my favourite video game characters have been female: Elizabeth Comstock from Bioshock Infinite and Bioshock: Burial at Sea; the female version of Commander Shepherd in Mass Effect; Kara in Detroit: Become Human; Ellie in the original Last of Us (I’ve yet to play Part II); Kate Walker in the Syberia game series; Cate Archer in the spy spoof games No One Lives Forever (amazed they haven’t done a movie with her yet); Ciri in Witcher III; and even the player-named female protagonist in Grand Theft Auto Online (depending how one plays her). Others might include Lara Croft and Samus on their lists (I was never into Tomb Raider or System Shock) or characters like Jill Valentine from Resident Evil, never mind all the various Mortal Kombat/Injustice/Overwatch/Fortnite etc. fighting game characters. The list goes on. So it’s weird a company would have cold feet over what was a pretty common thing by 2017.

But back to Aloy, if you don’t mind spoilers (or have played the game and want a refresher), there are a number of supercuts on Youtube of some of her snarkier lines of dialogue. Here’s one example:

First off, those goggles are awesome and I’m loving the steampunky vibe as always. Secondly, Baranour, in my humble opinion, was the best location in the game thus far. The Syberia series has always done a great job depicting locales that are past their prime and giving you the illusion of what they must have looked like when a town was booming, an amusement park was thriving, and so on. 

Many of my criticisms of this game still stand, but there’s no doubt that there are still those moments of wonder and imagination that made me fall in love with this series in the first place, especially Syberia I.
